Should I cut down my putter

August 12, 2010, 4:44 am - (1 year ago)
Even though many would suggest building a set from scratch, being new and learning the basics, I bought a Wilson MOI set with the $150 I got for my birthday. The great thing about golf is that putting can be done in the comfort of your home.

Whenever I have a minute, I putt. I find it helps calm me down. I use the putter include with the set but I always find it difficult to grip in the right place. I'm a just a tad taller than short (5'8"), and if I'm standing correctly, eyes right over the ball, knees very slightly bent, I'm griping the club right at my belly button. I found that the conventional method works best for me, so when I try that, my hands slide down to where part of my hand is gripping the steel.

I've been readin about putter lengths and how their is no standard. So I've been thinking about addressing this in 3 ways.

1. Cut down my current putter to a comfortable length, probably equivalent to a 33"
2. Buy a putter at a store or online that carries different lengths
3. Buy a custom putter from someplace like Coutour Golf which will make it specifically for me

Considering that I am new but am very interested in pursuing the game, what would be a good recommendation without breaking the bank.

Thanks All
