 | August 17, 2010, 8:10 pm - (1 year ago) Setting sponsors, and TV ratings ($MONEY$) a side, I am thinking that I would hate to be in Pavin's shoes right now. For him, "his" Ryder Cup team is in a must win situation with regards to his 4 picks. Actually it would his ONE PICK, or ONE NON-PICK. If he picks Tiger, and they lose, it's his and Tiger's fault, perception wise. If he does not pick him, and they lose, it's Pavin's fault for leaving the best player in the world off the team. If Tiger accepts a pick, plays poorly, and they lose, then he will probably get blamed for the loss, and for taking the spot of another player who may have played better. If Tiger declines a pick, then he runs the risk of being considered unpatriotic to some, and/or contributing to the loss by not being there. Competition wise, from the group that Pavin could pick from, I believe Tiger is the only one to make the cut in all of this year's 4 majors. Then again there are quite a few top 10 finishes (& MCs) in that same group. Most likely, no wins either.
Whom ever he picks, the Euro team is pretty strong this year. Then there's that home field advantage thing. The American team will have their work cut out for them. A victory by the American team, with all this off course turmoil will speak very loud. :D
