AMATEUR GOLFERS CAN BID FOR A PLAYING PLACE IN ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

Amateur golfers are being offered the chance of a lifetime to play in the same tournament as some of the worldÂ's leading professionals in the 2010 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

The opportunity to take part in this prestigious invitation-only tournament held over the Old Course at St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie and the highly regarded Kingsbarns Golf Links from October 7-10 is every golferÂ's dream.

This exclusive amateur playing place in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship – celebrating its 10th year - is up for auction from Tuesday 7th September. The auction will finish at 1400 BST on Tuesday 14th September. This is available on the site for one week only.

The winning bidder will be treated to the very best of Alfred DunhillÂ's world famous hospitality. The package includes one amateur place in the 2010 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, five nights accommodation for two (double or twin room) at an official tournament hotel (breakfast included), airport transfers from Edinburgh and invitations to the championship's exclusive social events as honoured guests. The winning bidder will need to arrive in St Andrews on Tuesday 5th October to register by 5pm. The winning bidder is required to have a handicap of 24 maximum for gentlemen and 18 maximum for ladies. A handicap certificate is required from the winning bidder's golf club.

Over the years the Championship has attracted a strong international field including: Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Ernie Els, Ian Poulter, Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen, Fred Couples and Trevor Immelman.

Among the many celebrated amateurs who have played in the past are Samuel L Jackson, Bill Murray, Sir Bobby Charlton, Shane Warne, Ruud Gullit, Huey Lewis, Dennis Hopper, Michael Vaughan and Johann Cruyff.

Funds raised from this auction will be donated to The Prostate Cancer Charity, the UKÂ's leading charity working with people affected by prostate cancer. Every year over 36,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer making it the most common cancer in men in the UK. Their mission is to fight the disease on every front - through research, support, information and campaigning. A worthy cause for a fabulous prize.
